Today, we went to Roskilde. I love Roskilde!
This is the Roskilde Cathedral. Mom and I spent at least an hour/ hour and a half in there. Remember, that I have been here before. :)
These are the choir stalls, near the alter. Each one is a relief of a different part of the Old and New Testament.
These are the New Testament reliefs
Each side "room" off the main cathedral is burial places for the Kings and Queens of Denmark.
(All Kings of Denmark have been named Christian or Frederick)
This is the Chapel of the Magi (Christian I's Chapel)
This pillar in the middle shows how tall some of the Kings were
Map of those buried here.
Frederick V's Chapel
The inside of the Cathedral. Amazing brick work
Christian IV's Chapel
This is the beautiful organ.
The clock! It is of King George slaying the dragon. The dragon's wail is made from the organ playing multiple pipes at once.
The Gluckesburger Chapel
The view from the Cathedral.
The outside of the Cathedral.
After the Cathedral, we went to the Viking Ship Museum. There are 6 viking ships that they have found and rebuilt and are continuing to study.
This is a Viking ship that is sent out every year to make it feel like you are a Viking.
The inside of the museum - the 6 ships
The entire outer area was devoted to tasks of building Viking ships in the way that they were originally built.
Tonight, after dinner, Mom, Dad and I drove down to Kristina.
She is in memory of all the Danish saints who left Denmark and came to America. There is a replicate statue on BYU's campus.
Afterwards, we headed over to The Little Mermaid, or Den Lille Havfrue. She is the most famous statue in Denmark.
This is the fountain outside of Amalienborg Castle. That is another day.
