September 21, 2014

After staying at the Radisson Inn (and never receiving a room key...), we went to the Stake Conference in a music hall.  I thought it was interesting that the pianist didn't have any sheet music in front him.  He just had the words and went from there.

Afterwards, we went to the Horsens State Prison to see the Tolkien Universe exhibit.  Horsens does a Medieval Festival every year and this year they brought in this exhibit.

The Horsens State Prison

You were able to pick up Aragorn's, Frodo's, Thorin Oakenshield's and Gandolf's swords.  They were all heavy.

 Legolas's bow
 Gandalf's staffs

There were many miniatures showing different scenes.
This is the #1 selling statue...He is kind ugly.

 This Gandalf was life-size.

And of course, you have to have Gollum
And the One Ring to Rule Them All - 24 Karat Gold

Home of the Dark Lord Sauron - this was an exact duplicate of the Shooting Miniature that was used.  More than 1,500 hours went into its sculpting.

There were signs everywhere telling about how different areas from "Lord of the Rings" have areas in Scandinavian history.

Afterwards, we went to exploring through the outskirts of Jutland - one of the three main islands of Denmark.

This is the church in Gammel Rye.  My great great grandmother and her family grew up around this area and it is most likely that they went to this church before joining the LDS church.  She and my great grandmother left the family and left for the states.

The view from the church - so pretty.

Next, we went to Himmelbjerget - one of the highest spots in Denmark.  The top of the tower is 482 feet above sea level.
It is where the first constitution was signed in 1849 by King Frederick VII.
This is the view from the top - the Silkeborg Lakes and Forest.

Mom and I went to the top of the tower to see the view from there.

It was very very windy up there.  :)

This night we stayed in Låsby in a Krø.  It was a small quaint hotel and so loving.  It was built in 1734.  We had a great dinner and then played games to finish off the day.
