July 8, 2013

Today, sadly, we left Gettysburg and went back to Mount Vernon.  We watched a movie about George Washington and he was a great person.
Mount Vernon is beautiful estate.  It had two gardens, vegetable and flowers, and still had the quarters for the slaves.
We walked quickly through a museum all about Washington's life, another place I could have stayed a few more hours.

At the airport in Baltimore, we saw some re-enactors going home.  They had to bring all their own uniforms, tents, muskets and cannons if you are part of artillery.  Most of the men were Union, but there was one Confederate soldier.  We asked about Pickett's Charge and how you decided to die, since most of the Confederate died there.  They told them that if your birthday is before June, you die before the fence, if your birthday is June or after, you died after the fence.  I overheard one of them say that participating in this reminded him that he doesn't want it to happen ever again.
Sadly, our trip came to an end and it was an amazing trip!  I loved it and so glad that I decided to go.
